Fincas Near Medellín — 2026 Guide
Fincas near Medellín (country houses rented whole, usually with a pool, for a group or a family) lie in two directions. To the west, through the Túnel de Occidente (the Western Tunnel), are San Jerónimo and Sopetrán, hot and with pools, less than an hour away. To the north, on the Autopista Norte (the northern highway), are Copacabana, Girardota and Barbosa. How much does a finca near Medellín cost?
Half of the 218 listings fall between COP 700,000 and COP 1,195,000 per night. San Jerónimo has a median of COP 1,000,000 across 70 listings and Sopetrán COP 800,000 across 19. In the north, Copacabana has COP 955,000 across 34, Girardota COP 900,000 across 21 and Barbosa COP 750,000 across 65. Fredonia shows COP 565,000 across 8 listings, a small sample.
These are asking prices, not booked prices, with no split by season, and they leave out listings under COP 150,000, which are almost always priced per person.
San Jerónimo and Sopetrán
San Jerónimo (about 780 m above sea level) and Sopetrán (about 750 m above sea level) are to Medellín what Girardot is to Bogotá: the nearest place to find heat. Since the Túnel de Occidente opened, San Jerónimo is 45 minutes to 1 hour from the city. It is the town with the most fincas listed in this guide. Sopetrán, a little further on, has fincas with a more rustic, country style.
The north: Copacabana, Girardota and Barbosa
These are 30 to 60 minutes away on the Autopista Norte, with a mild to warm climate. Barbosa has the lowest median of the towns with more than ten listings and the second-largest supply in the guide.
The east and the southwest
El Retiro and La Ceja (about 2,200 m above sea level) are cool: a fireplace instead of a pool. Fredonia (about 1,800 m above sea level), to the southwest, has coffee fincas with views of Cerro Tusa, a pyramid-shaped mountain.
Getting there
San Jerónimo and Sopetrán: via the Conexión Vial Aburrá-Cauca and the Túnel de Occidente, with a toll. Copacabana, Girardota and Barbosa: via the Autopista Norte. El Retiro: via the Las Palmas road, about 45 minutes. La Ceja: about an hour to the east. Fredonia: 1.5 to 2 hours. Buses to San Jerónimo and Sopetrán leave from Medellín's Terminal del Norte (the north bus station).
What they won't tell you
The drive back through the Túnel de Occidente on Sundays and holiday Mondays backs up from mid-afternoon (Colombia moves most public holidays to a Monday, so the whole city returns at once). Leaving San Jerónimo before 3 p.m. or after 7 p.m. changes the trip. In the rainy season, the road to the west closes for landslides: check the road conditions before you set out.
