Cali has something Bogotá and Medellín don't: five different finca destinations less than an hour away, with climates that range from the flat heat of the Cauca River valley floor to cool mountain air. A finca is a country house you rent whole, usually with a pool, for a group or a family. The price gap between them is huge too. Dagua. A median of COP 250,000 per night based on 16 listings, with 27 fincas listed. It is the most affordable supply anywhere around Cali, and it sits on the road to the Pacific coast, so it also works as a stop on the way to Buenaventura.
La Cumbre. COP 600,000 based on 11 listings. Mountains, cool weather, weekend houses. This is where people from Cali go when they want to stop sweating.
Palmira. COP 780,000 based on 14 listings. Flat, warm, close to the airport. It makes sense if your group is flying in.

The detail almost nobody uses
El Cerrito is home to the Hacienda El Paraíso, the house where Jorge Isaacs set María, the most widely read romantic novel of 19th-century Colombian literature. Today it is a museum. It is the most interesting half-day outing on the whole corridor, and almost no weekend visitor has it on their radar.
What they won't tell you
The road to the Pacific (the vía al mar), which takes you to Dagua, is the freight route in and out of the port of Buenaventura. There is heavy truck traffic at all hours and frequent closures for roadworks. That is the other side of Dagua's low price.
Second: La Cumbre is cool, but it is also damp and misty for much of the year. If you want guaranteed sun, go to the flat valley, not the mountains.
Third: in December, the Feria de Cali (the city's big year-end fair) drives up occupancy across the whole area, not just in the city. Booking in La Cumbre or Dagua for those days takes as much lead time as booking in Cali.
