Semana Santa (Holy Week, the week before Easter) is, together with the year-end holidays, the week of highest demand for fincas in Colombia. A finca is a country house you rent whole, usually with a pool, for a group or a family. The rule owners repeat is simple: the best options are gone six to eight weeks ahead. Anyone searching the same week pays more and gets less choice.
How much does a finca cost during Holy Week?
In a normal season, the median rental listing in Melgar is COP 500,000 per night and in Girardot COP 870,000, based on 34 and 42 listings published on Finkeros as of August 21, 2026. During Holy Week those numbers go up, and many owners change how they charge: instead of a nightly rate, they require the full package of three or four nights.
Be careful to compare like with like. Some listings quote per person, which is why you will see prices of COP 55,000 or COP 60,000. Before you get excited, ask whether the price is for the whole finca.
When do you need to book?
If the finca is for more than twelve people, in February. That inventory is the most requested in every municipality and the first to sell out.
For groups of six to ten people there is still some room until early March. After that, what is left usually comes with a catch: no air conditioning, far from town, or a pool shared between two houses.
Which destinations fill up first?
The tierra caliente corridor near Bogotá fills up before anywhere else. Tierra caliente means the hot lowlands, roughly 300 to 1,000 m above sea level, and this stretch includes Melgar, Girardot, Anapoima, Ricaurte and Carmen de Apicalá. It makes sense: it is two or three hours from more than ten million people.
Western Antioquia comes next. Santa Fe de Antioquia also has the most traditional Holy Week in the department (Colombia's departments are its states), with processions that fill the town, so demand there is not only about the pool.
The Eje Cafetero (Coffee Region) behaves differently. Since people go for the landscape rather than the heat, occupancy rises but prices move less.
What they won't tell you
The road to Girardot on Holy Thursday can double your travel time. A drive that takes about three hours on an ordinary Tuesday easily becomes five or six if you leave Bogotá between 5 and 10 in the morning. Leaving Wednesday afternoon or before dawn on Thursday changes the day completely.
Second: during Holy Week many hot-country towns restrict noise, and some municipalities impose a ley seca (a ban on alcohol sales) on certain days. If the group's plan is to party, check first with the owner or the town hall. That is no small detail when twenty people are traveling.
Third: April falls within the first rainy season in much of the country. Heat does not mean clear skies. With a three-hour downpour, the covered area is what saves the trip, so it is worth confirming that it is large.
